In the heart of Nyeri, in the Othaya coffee district, lies the Ichamama Washing Station. Established in 1999, it’s part of the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society, a network of dedicated smallholder producers who bring their ripe cherries here for processing.

The cooperative supports its members with training, resources, and fair access to markets — helping farmers continue to produce the exceptional coffees this region is known for. Most of the farms are small, about one hectare each, located between 1,650 and 1,800 meters above sea level, where rich volcanic soil and cool mountain air shape the character of the beans.

The main varieties grown here are SL28, SL34, and Ruiru 11, all carefully handpicked at peak ripeness before being processed at Ichamama. The station is led by John Ngunjiri, together with Samuel Gathua, a young and passionate producer eager to learn and refine his craft.

Together, their work represents the best of Nyeri — clean, bright, and complex coffees that carry the legacy and care of many hands.
